Learning Environment

As you can see at Forestdale Primary School we are extremely fortunate to have such a fantastic Learning Environment. We have made the best use of every space to provide a rich learning setting.

Learning Resource Centre

We have bright classrooms to work in and many other areas to support our cross-curricular approach to learning. Special areas include the ICT suite (with enough computers for one per child), a fabulous new sports hall with table tennis tables, a gymnasium with wall bars, a fully stocked library and a space themed learning resource centre.

We have a large field for outdoor learning and outdoor sports, a pond, a wilderness area, an allotment where we grow our own fruits and vegetables, an outdoor classroom/gazebo, outdoor gym, a stage and a peace garden.

Running Track

Our Wilderness Area is located in the top corner of our beautiful field and provides a dedicated outdoor space for weekly sessions. Children from Year 1 to Year 6 take part in half termly blocks of Wilderness Area learning. Each block ends with a celebration including a bonfire, s’mores, hot chocolate and singing.

These sessions focus on learning through nature and outdoor exploration. Children use natural materials to create artwork, develop skills such as knot tying, and take part in a variety of hands on activities including den building, natural printing, story sticks, wind chimes and pond visits.

The Wildreness Area programme is structured but allows children freedom to explore, be creative and follow their own ideas. Where possible, learning is linked to the curriculum and seasonal events to support meaningful, real world learning.
