At Forestdale, our intent for the Art & Design curriculum is to foster creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression in all pupils. Using the Kapow Primary Art & Design scheme, we aim to provide a structured yet inspiring journey through the visual arts, enabling children to explore a wide range of artistic techniques, materials, and cultural influences.

Our curriculum is designed to:

• Inspire creativity and confidence, allowing pupils to express their ideas, feelings, and individuality through a variety of artistic forms. Develop knowledge and skills progressively, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art, building upon prior learning from EYFS to Year 6.
• Introduce children to significant artists, designers, and craft makers, both historical and contemporary, from diverse backgrounds and cultures, helping pupils to appreciate the role of art in the wider world.
• Encourage experimentation and resilience, fostering an environment where pupils feel safe to take creative risks and learn from their mistakes.
• Support cross-curricular learning, enhancing understanding in subjects such as history, science, and PSHE through visual exploration and design thinking.

Kapow’s curriculum ensures full coverage of the National Curriculum for Art & Design, offering a carefully sequenced and inclusive approach that promotes artistic fluency and visual literacy for all learners, including those with SEND.

Through this engaging and comprehensive scheme, we aim to cultivate a lifelong love and appreciation of the arts, empowering our pupils to become confident and imaginative contributors to the world around them.
